BRIEF POSITION SUMMARY:
The Community Relations (CR) Specialist works closely with nonprofit organizations to strengthen MSCs relationship with the community and is responsible for overseeing of projects related to charitable giving and volunteerism at MSC. This role partners with nonprofit organizations to identify where MSC can assist in addressing important issues facing the communities where we live and work and serves as the leader of the Community Relations Team, a group of inter-departmental volunteers focused on executing the CR program strategy by developing initiatives which inspire, empower, and engage associates in community service.
DUTIES and RESPONSIBILITIES:
Represents MSC in community organizations and helps MSC maintain a high profile in the affairs of its community.
Organizes and coordinates special programs and activities to strengthen public interest, understanding and goodwill. Plans and organizes all outreach activities.
Conducts research and gathers information on various issues and concerns in the community.
Conducts research and analysis regarding grantees and prospective grantees.
Assists in the identification, development and implementation of community programs and activities.
Coordinates staff and other resources to support community programs and activities. Identifies other resources and coordinates efforts. Ensures staff is informed of initiatives and changes in programs.
Prepares budgets and schedules for programs. Establishes vendor specifications and contractual responsibilities.
Provides on-site assistance at special events.
Oversees MSC’s Community Relations activities which include, but are not limited to, the following:
Community Relations events (internal & external)
Partnerships with non-profit organizations
Oversees activities of the Community Relations Team and works directly with team members on the coordination and execution of CR events.
Develops and oversees annual and monthly calendar of Community Relations events.
Oversees the logistics for volunteer events, community relations events, projects and programs.
Maintains all invoices related to Community Relations events and fundraisers.
Drafts & sends communications for various community relations events.
Updates online community relations website with current news and photos
Maintains database of proposal requests received for all MSC locations.
Tracks and analyzes associate volunteer hours and participation in Community Relations events.
Facilitates monthly Community Relations Team meetings.
Updates Community Relations presentations
Orders and maintains inventory of all items related to Community Relations events including giveaways, banners, and clothing.
Fosters the MSC Culture in the department and throughout the company to ensure unity of purpose and fulfillment of MSC’s mission.
Participates in special projects and performs additional duties as required.
EDUCATION and EXPERIENCE:
Bachelor’s Degree in Public Relations or the equivalent is required.
Minimum of two years Public Relations and/or Community Relations/Non-Profit experience is required.
Project Management experience is preferred.
Experience in leading teams/meetings, and excellent problem-solving skills are required.
Familiarity with the nonprofit sector and interest in helping strengthen nonprofits toward greater effectiveness
Self-starter, skilled at completing tasks with minimal support
Excellent oral and written communication and presentation skills are also required.
Fluency in Microsoft Office Suite required.
Social media fluency and excellent research skills a plus.
