BRIEF POSITION SUMMARY

The position of Demand Planner develops demand forecasts (operational forecasts) at multiple levels of aggregation for assigned product lines, locations, and market channels as part of the demand planning function.

DUTIES and RESPONSIBILITIES

  • Develops demand forecasts (operational forecasts) at multiple levels of aggregation for assigned product lines, locations, and market channels as part of the demand planning function.

  • Analyzes all data pertinent to creating the demand forecast including historical sales, market trends, seasonality, promotions, and intelligence received from Sales, Merchandizing, or Finance.

  • Coordinates promotional demand forecasting with the Brochure Managers to ensure high customer fill rate on promoted products. Suggests alternative selections if supplier issues exist.

  • Meets regularly with Product and Merchandizing Managers to ensure awareness of any special programs, promotions, marketing, or any other activities that may result in a shift in sales demand within the Product Line.

  • Reviews and makes adjustments to statistical forecasting model selections based upon fluctuations to demand history.

  • Provide input to Supply Planning in developing inventory strategies on existing items, new items, and items exiting MSC’s product offering.

  • Compares forecast accuracy reporting against actual demand to understand variances and implement corrective actions.

  • Reviews exceptions at all levels of aggregation to identify forecasts which have unusually high or low trending, potentially due to historical data impacted by an individual sales event. Calibrations made to forecast when appropriate based upon research, knowledge or data provided.

  • Maintains demand planning system, including product data errors and implements corrective actions.

  • Fosters the MSC Culture in the department and throughout the company to ensure fulfillment of MSC’s vision and unity of purpose.

  • Participation in special projects and performs additional duties as required

EDUCATION and EXPERIENCE

  • An Associate Degree in Business or the equivalent experience is required

  • Experience with Forecasting or Demand Planning preferred.

  • APICs Certified in Production & Inventory Management preferred.

  • APICS or other forecasting Certification preferred.

SKILLS

  • Computer literacy and proficiency in word processing and spreadsheet software is required.

  • Strong analytical, organizational, decision making, and interpersonal skills required.

  • Excellent verbal and written communications skills are also required.

  • Knowledge of JDA/SCPO, or other software related to demand planning is preferred.

  • Basic knowledge of descriptive statistics is preferred.

  • Basic negotiation and follow up skills are preferred.
