BRIEF POSITION SUMMARY:The Sr. Manager, Environmental Compliance & Sustainability is responsible for leading and executing environmental performance of our organization as well as ensure we are in compliant with federal, state and local requirements. They will also be responsible for educating, developing, implementing and monitoring environmental strategies that promote sustainability.DUTIES and RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • Responsible for supporting the organization with Environmental Compliance issues between MSC and its external customers.

  • Ensures compliance with applicable Environmental laws and regulations that apply to company operations and corporate compliance to environmental regulations.

  • Leads the development of companywide policies and procedures including storage, handling and shipping of various materials including, but not limited to, hazardous materials in order to ensure compliance with various rules and regulations. Ensures policies are distributed to all locations as necessary.

  • In collaboration with other departments, inspects and provides guidance to MSC’s facilities to detect any company operations that may potentially effect MSC’s compliance to environmental regulations and/or contributing to potential accidents and recommends plans for corrective measures.

  • Strategically develops and educates all associates as to the potential danger of working under certain conditions, or with certain substances (i.e., dangerous chemicals, etc.) and recommends preventative measures.

  • Leads in the investigation of occurrences and/or incidents and identifies and prepares evidence for Company use in all legal actions and/ or insurance investigations.

  • In partnership with the Director assists in the preparation of the annual EC&S budget and monitors expenditures to ensure compliance with approved budgetary constraints. Takes corrective action as needed.

  • Prepares and arranges Environmental and Sustainability exhibits and material for display, promotional work, conferences and exhibition. Acts as an MSC representative in the community and/or industry EC&S programs.

  • Ensures maintenance of relevant Environmental files, records and reports.

  • Works closely with various internal departments (CFCs, Risk Management, Legal, Category Management, Executive and HR Teams) and external vendors/suppliers (Consultants, Law Firms, Insurance Companies etc.) determine best course of action ensuring MSC’s compliance and minimizing MSC’s risks.

  • Performs all duties inherent in the role of an MSC Manager, including hiring, terminations and development of associates.

  • Drives the MSC Culture in the department and throughout the company to ensure fulfillment of MSC’s vision and unity of purpose.

  • Participation in special projects and performs additional duties as required

EDUCATION and EXPERIENCE:

  • Bachelor’s degree in Sciences or Business, or the equivalent is required.

  • Master’s degree in Sciences or Business, or the equivalent is preferred

  • Minimum of ten years related Environmental compliance experience, including Seven years in a managerial position is required.

SKILLS:

  • Knowledge of various Environmental and Sustainability regulations including Transport of Hazmat regulations are required.

  • Ability to bend and lift objects up to 25 pounds is required.

  • Excellent verbal and written communications skills are required.

  • Drivers License is required

  • Ability to travel.

  • Excellent customer service skills

  • Must be able to manage multiple projects, and ensure budget and timeline goals

  • Strong computer skills including but not limited to Microsoft Office, Access, Excel, PowerPoint.

  • Ability to manage, lead, and coach a diverse group of direct reports

OTHER REQUIREMENTS:

  • A valid driver’s license and the ability to travel up to 35% of the time may be required.
