BRIEF POSITION SUMMARY:

The District Sales Manager (DSM) provides leadership and overall management of approximately 20 to 30 sales professionals within an assigned geographic area implementing the sales plan and ensuring attainment of revenue and profit objectives. The position is responsible for an annual revenue base of $6-$8 million serving approximately 1,500 to 2,000 customers within a district. The DSM is responsible for the addition of new accounts, customer and market penetration and for retaining existing accounts for assigned district.

DUTIES and RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • Develops strategic sales growth plans in conjunction with the Regional Vice President (RVP), Sales & Marketing and Corporate Account departments.

  • Responsible for developing, leading and maintaining an effective team selling function for successful company system business.

  • Responsible for on boarding, and training as well as coaching and developing current and new sales personnel.

  • Develops plans with the RVP on an annual basis and as warranted to improve performance to meet sales plan

  • Communicates plans, goals and objectives effectively to subordinates to ensure effective execution.

  • Directs and controls the activities of sales representatives within the region.

  • Evaluates subordinate development growth and provides effective performance monitoring and correction plans in conjunction with human resources.

  • Coordinates the hand-off of new customers to the appropriate sales representatives to ensure effective execution of the meeting and required service goals of the customer.

  • Tracks, monitors and evaluates profitability of new and existing business and directs the pricing decisions of sales representatives to ensure that adequate levels of profitability are maintained in conjunction with zone management.

  • Provides appropriate monthly internal reporting to management as required.

  • Performs all duties inherent in the role of an MSC Manager including hiring, termination, review and development of associates.

  • Fosters the MSC Culture in the department and throughout the company to ensure fulfillment of MSC’s vision and unity of purpose.

  • Participation in special projects and performs additional duties as required.

EDUCATION and EXPERIENCE:

  • Bachelor’s degree or equivalent job experience required.

  • An advanced degree is preferred.

  • Minimum of five years of proven successful sales management experience to include a track record of achieving profitable sales growth and managing a team of experienced sales professionals with a strong emphasis on manpower and customer planning, engagement and building a team environment.

SKILLS:

  • Strong leadership, development and managing a geographic market and sales associates.

  • Demonstrated success in selling value-added products and/or services within the industrial and transportation marketplace.

  • Demonstrated ability to successfully manage team-selling activities with regard to value-added products and/or services.

  • Strong maintenance, repair and operating (MRO) product knowledge with industry experience.

  • Financial acumen and ability to manage P&L of district. Must have the ability and knowledge to read budgets and conduct financial analysis.

  • Excellent organizational, communication, leadership, motivation, coaching, listening and planning and decision making skills.

  • Ability to embrace change and create team agility while optimizing productivity.

  • Ability to work independently under minimal supervision and build effective working relationships at all levels within the company.

  • Must have the ability to communicate both verbally and in written format, and to access input and retrieve information using a PC or laptop computer.

  • Strong knowledge of PC-based software including Microsoft Office literacy required.

OTHER REQUIREMENTS:

  • A valid driver’s license and the ability to travel up to 70% of the time within the region and 15% of the time outside of the region are required.
