BRIEF POSITION SUMMARY:
The primary duty of the On-Site Application Engineer is to provide engineering support to the client’s engineers, technicians, and material planners in the correct selection, design and application of hardware in new and existing platforms. Coordinate reverse engineering projects with customers, AIS, and AIS manufacturers. Help customers solve product application problems and document cost reduction opportunities.
DUTIES and RESPONSIBILITIES:
Acts as the main technical adviser on hardware and product application projects.
Reviews hardware designs to reduce costs by part standardization and value engineering.
Develops and presents concise business cases for cost saving opportunities.
Responsible for the project management of approved proposals, including:
Project scope of work;
Time line and budget;
Return on investment;
Actively participates in monthly update review meetings with the senior management of both AIS and client to review progress of all on-going projects and payback.
Takes ownership of incidents and professionally manage them through to resolution.
Organizes training events
Undertakes other tasks as assigned by management
Flexibility in traveling across North America as directed. (occasionally overseas)
Fosters the AIS/MSC Culture in the department and throughout the company to ensure fulfillment of AIS/MSC’s vision and unity of purpose.
Participation in special projects and performs additional duties as required
EDUCATION and EXPERIENCE:
Bachelor’s degree required.
Master’s preferred in Mechanical Engineering or related field.
Minimum of two years of experience in design or application engineering in new product development required.
Knowledge of fasteners and bolted joint design.
Experience in managing a geographically and culturally diverse team
Maintains a high level of confidentiality related to all duties and responsibilities, such as the proprietary information of vendors and customers.
Strong ability to apply applications of engineering principles and practices to solve specific problems in a timely manner.
3D (Catia) drafting skills necessary to provide efficient communications to all parties involved in the design process.
Ability to document process flow and report out improvements to the process or product.
Understands process and product testing procedures including chemical, mechanical and dimensional.
Excellent communication skills, both written and verbal required.
Ability to deal professionally with customers, internal customers and suppliers in a polite, efficient and responsive way required.
Ability to communicate technical information to non-technical users required.
Self-motivate, committed and enthusiastic Engineering professional, must be able to work on own initiative and without constant supervision.
- A valid driver’s license required and the ability to travel up to 20% of the time.
