DUTIES and RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • This position reports directly to the National Account Team Manager, to fully align with the National Account goals and strategies.

  • Responsible for sales and contribution margin growth across large accounts in assigned geographic area. Proactively anticipates business challenges and implements new solution programs to meet annual budget.

  • Market National Account Manager will have very little, (if any at all) Corporate National Account responsibilities.

  • Prepares and delivers, in accordance with National Account program guidelines, sales presentations and strategic business reviews that address the established clients’ needs and leads to sales growth in assigned National Account customers.

  • Create business development funnel to identify new sales opportunities and drive incremental revenue through regional customer base and National Account prospects bringing value, new initiatives, and programs.

  • Gathers, organizes, and analyzes information of all assigned national accounts in their geography, and competitive activity associated within these accounts, and communicates these findings with other NA Managers.

  • Developing and maintaining relationships at the C-Level; at the site within the assigned portfolio.

  • Works with local field sales team to support large account locations. Aligns team member’s activities to meet customer’s strategic initiatives balanced against the needs of MSC Shareholders. Works closely with local sales leadership teams to align resources and sales efforts.

  • Maximizes sales by implementing advanced business planning, forecasting, and analytical and category management expertise.

  • Interfaces and maintains positive relationships with internal customer-interfacing departments, including Pricing, Customer Service, Product Management, IT, and Finance to represent both MSC and the customer’s interest.

  • Ensures that initiatives and activities at region/market levels are aligned with those at the national level.

  • Create and present customized business reviews and complete ongoing general business cases to secure new business.

  • Proactively develops and presents business strategies to drive portfolio results utilizing business management, analytical and consultative skills to attain key business management, customer defined service level metrics, category management initiatives, national account strategies, and ROI.

  • Align customer strategies with MSCs strategic plan to build annual business plan to achieve top and bottom line goals.

  • Assure that field sales supports the customer’s cost savings reduction objectives. Maintain regular communication with Large Account owner on cost savings progress at assigned locations.

  • Cultivates and maintains, under the guidance of National Accounts Management, relationships with established national accounts to increase existing business and ensure excellent client relations.

  • Represents national accounts in e-business cross-functional initiatives.

  • Establishes and maintains a working relationship with key MSC Marketing, Product, and Accounting department associates to keep abreast of current and new products/services/strategic initiatives.

  • Submits to management all required sales and expense reports.

  • Sells MSC’s basic value basket and services to clients.

  • Ensures meeting of budgetary cost center constraints and takes corrective action when needed.

  • Tailors national account strategy to align with MSC corporate sales and marketing strategy.

  • Learns and fosters the MSC Culture in the department and throughout the company to ensure unity of purpose and fulfillment of MSC’s mission.

  • Educates/promotes selling techniques and guidelines for national accounts to MSC outside sales and branch sales managers to increase program awareness and sales.

Participates in special projects and performs additional duties as required.

EDUCATION and EXPERIENCE:

  • A Bachelor’s Degree in Business or the equivalent experience is required.

  • Minimum of three years industrial/manufacturing/distribution sales experience and direct account responsibility is required.

SKILLS:

  • Basic knowledge of national account sales and/or large account maintenance and growth techniques

    is required.

  • Experience with large account sales and/or large account penetration, negotiation, and maintenance techniques is required.

  • Demonstrates potential to move across other functions of the team and/or organization (Category Leadership, Joint Business Planning, etc.)

  • Strong business and financial acumen: an ability to plan, track, and evaluate data that leads to profitable sales growth.

  • Excellent sales, negotiation, and team building skills and techniques are required.

  • Computer literacy and proficiency in Microsoft Office (Word, Excel, PowerPoint) is required

  • Basic knowledge of e-business as it relates to national accounts is required.

  • Excellent oral and written communications skills are also required.

MISCELLANEOUS:

  • A valid driver’s license and the ability to travel extensively is required.
